The random read/write performance data from SiSoft Sandra that we also quote is a measure of a drive's sustained performance when reading and writing a contiguous block of information to a randomly chosen location.

Early last year the company caught the SSD market by surprise with the release of their 830 Series SSD, which was followed in late 2012 by the 840 and 840 Pro that provide awesome performance and focus not only on performance, but also on reliability and long-term performance stability.

So the big difference in terms of performance you can likely trace to the flash memory in each drive.

Technically, the 840 Pro should be very cheap to make for Samsung as all components, including the flash chips, are provided by Samsung itself, so we may see some price drops with more competition in the high-end market.
