After the torture I TRIM'ed the drive (quick format in Windows 7/8) and ran HD Tach to make sure TRIM is functional.

It is not horrible but I would still rather see consistent behavior instead of a "clean later" approach where the drive pushes maximum IOPS whenever it can.
However, the 128KB write operation completed at 25.6KB/s, whereas the throughput of the 4KB write operation was only 4KB/s..
